Oregon Screening Project

December 10, 2024

The Oregon Screening Project's (OSP) purpose is to enhance early developmental screening opportunities for families in Oregon by making it easy for parents to check their young child's development on their own, anytime. This unique, free public service is operated by the Center on Human Development, University of Oregon, and supported by the Oregon Department of Education.

How OSP Works

Parents or childcare providers of young children ages 1 month to 6 years can use OSP at no cost. Two early childhood screening tools are available to help check a child's general and social emotional development.

Understanding Results

OSP's questionnaires are surveys of what a child has learned or is doing once they’ve had an opportunity to try and practice. Learn more about how to understand and use your child’s questionnaire results to support their learning.

Next Steps Guide

The ages of birth through 5 years are critical times in your young child’s brain development and a great time to support early learning. Use your child’s questionnaire results as guides for skills and behaviors that are expected at this age.

Providers Training Toolkit

Tools to introduce and support parents in the screening process. Use this guide to help your families complete an ASQ, discuss results, and learn more about a child’s development.
Research has shown that the ages of birth to 5 years are one of the best times to support your child’s development. At-Home Activities are Play and Learning Activities that help parents know what to expect a child is ready to do or learn in each age range. Making opportunities for a child to try and practice some new skills or for parents to learn new ways to engage their child can often be the best “next steps.” Oregon Early Intervention providers offer free evaluations and services to support development if needed.
