Linn Benton Health Equity Alliance Data Justice/Data Equity Panel
The first in a series of Data Justice/Data Equity Panels has been scheduled for April 20th from 12 pm- 2 pm via Zoom Webinar. The panel will be co-moderated by myself and Dr. Sandi Phibbs from OSU. This will be the kick-off to the Linn Benton Health Equity Alliance data equity/justice active learning groups, where they hope to influence research and evaluation processes and build community capacity to lead and inform projects.
The panel of speakers includes:
Dr. Andres Lopez, Research Director at Coalition of Communities of Color
“My role at the CCC primly focuses on running the Research Justice Institute (RJI). The RJI centers research and data justice efforts in support of communities of color in the Portland Metro Area and the state of Oregon to advance racial justice through cross-cultural collective action.”
“ A citizen of the Cherokee Nation of Oklahoma and an advocate for the Portland urban Native community is a tenured associate professor in the Oregon Health & Science University-Portland State University School of Public Health. Her work uses healing justice and Indigenous resistance frameworks, to promote systems change for health equity., a founding member of the Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) Decolonizing Research and Data Council.”
Alyshia is a community organizer, health equity strategist, and nationally recognized practitioner through the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation’s Culture of Health Leaders Program and Executive Director of the Oregon Pacific Islander Coalition. She has worked on many projects addressing data systems and racial equity including Oregon Public Health Division’s Pacific Islander Data Modernization project.
